Man shot by Fort Worth police after they say he robbed a 24-hour vape shop with crowbar
A Fort Worth police officer shot a man early Sunday morning suspected of robbing a 24-hour vape shop, according to a news release from police.
Officers received a call around 4 a.m. Sunday that a man was in the store in the 6400 block of McCart Avenue in south Fort Worth, according to release. The caller said the man, wearing a face mask and armed with a crowbar, had broken glass and stolen several items.
When officers arrived at the scene three minutes later, the man fled the scene on foot, according to police. He was found hiding in the back yard of a home in the 3200 block of Fargo Court, where officers confronted him and one officer shot him once in the leg.
Police did not say if the man was still armed or if he attacked or threatened the officers.
The officers immediately began providing first aid and the man was taken by MedStar to the hospital, where he is in stable condition, according to the release. Nobody else was injured and there are no outstanding suspects.
Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes said that “this is another reminder we often see of dangers that are out there in the public.”
“What I want Fort Worth to know is that even when they’re at home asleep, there are Fort Worth police officers out here around the clock doing everything they can to protect them, doing everything they can to take violent criminals off the street,” Noakes said.”
Police said the officer who shot the man has been placed on leave and investigations are underway by the Fort Worth police major case unit, internal affairs and the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.
