Forney and Arlington police investigating two shooting deaths that appear to be connected
Two shooting deaths on opposite sides of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex are related, Forney police said in a statement posted to social media Monday.
Officers responded to a reported shooting at 10:28 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Mandarin Street, less than a mile from Forney High School. Police found the first victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in the garage of a home on that block.
The female victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and hasn’t been publicly identified pending notification of her family.
After canvassing the area, police discovered a suspect in the killing fled the scene after sustaining injuries, according to the Forney police statement.
Forney’s police communication center put out a call to other agencies to help look for the suspect they believed was wounded, and heard back from Arlington police about a dead gunshot victim. Detectives from both agencies determined the cases are connected.
Arlington police said the person who died in their city was a 17-year-old boy. He was identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as Andrew Luis Chazarreta, whose home address was listed as the house in Forney where the shooting occurred.
Officers found Chazarreta when they responded around 11:30 p.m. Sunday to a 24-hour ER facility in the 3300 block of Cooper Street, where the 17-year-old was lying unresponsive in the parking lot, police said in a statement. The teen was pronounced dead there.
“As investigators were working to determine what happened to him and how he ended up at the ER facility, we received a BOLO from the Forney Police Department indicating that they were investigating a homicide in their city — and looking for a suspect who they believed had been shot during their incident,” Arlington police said in their statement. “After further investigation, we were able to link the 17-year-old to the incident in Forney. We notified Forney PD — and both they and the Texas Rangers responded to the ER facility in Arlington.”
The Texas Rangers are assisting on the case, which appears to be an isolated incident, Forney police said, adding that there is no threat to the public.
Anyone with information is asked to reach out to the Forney Police Department.
