Suspect in custody after leading officers on 40-minute chase through Fort Worth: police
A man is in custody Thursday after leading law enforcement officers on a nearly 40-minute chase through Fort Worth, police said.
Around 1:15 a.m., the Crowley Police Department requested assistance from Fort Worth police in pursuing a burglary suspect who was headed north on Interstate 35W near Felix Street, officials said.
Officers from Fort Worth’s Patrol Divisions, Gang Unit and Air Support Unit responded. Police said they used tire deflation devices in an attempt to stop the suspect vehicle, a black Chevrolet pickup, but the driver was able to keep going.
The suspect finally lost control of the pickup truck and hit a curb in the 3200 block of Hanger Avenue. The suspect was the sole occupant of the vehicle. He fled the scene on foot, but was taken into custody shortly before 2 a.m., police said.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and is in custody of the Crowley Police Department, officials said. His injuries occurred “when the suspect vehicle struck the curb or during the arrest process,” police said in a news release.
A Fort Worth police officer transported himself to a local hospital for treatment of a minor injury received during the deployment of a tire deflation device. No other injuries were reported, according to police, and the suspect vehicle was the only property damaged in the pursuit.
Crowley police identified the suspect as 48-year-old Eduardo Arambula, of Fort Worth. Arambula is facing multiple charges including burglary of a building and evading arrest with a vehicle.
Crowley police said the chase began after they were called to a burglary in progress at a Dollar General store, at 200 Roberts Drive. Officers arrived on the scene within one minute and saw the suspect’s vehicle leaving the area, police said in a news release.
The driver initially stopped when police tried to pull him over but then fled from officers, Crowley police said.
