A man who stabbed his 85-year-old father to death in a hallway at their house in northwest Fort Worth pleaded guilty last week to murder.

Ruben Lerma, 59, accepted a plea bargain offer from the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office and was on Wednesday sentenced to 20 years in prison in Criminal District Court 3 in Tarrant County.

Ruben Lerma killed Santiago Roberto Reyna Lerma on Feb. 16, 2021, inside their house in the 2100 block of Market Avenue, Fort Worth police said.

If he had been convicted at trial, Ruben Lerma would have been sentenced to between 15 and 99 years in prison or to life.

Law enforcement authorities did not describe what they alleged motivated Ruben Lerma in the killing.
