Man accused of firing shots near businesses on Bluebonnet Circle in Fort Worth identified

A man fired a gun Thursday afternoon as he walked outdoors along Bluebonnet Circle in west Fort Worth and went into several businesses there before he was arrested while drinking a cocktail, according to police and witnesses.

Caleb Reverie, 27, was arrested on suspicion of discharge of firearm in certain municipalities, unlawful carry of a weapon and public intoxication.

Reverie was taken to a hospital for evaluation, police said.

No one was injured.

Callers about 2:20 p.m. told 911 operators that a man was walking around the traffic circle firing a gun, according to a police incident detail report that provides preliminary information to officers responding to a call.

A witness who works at a business on the circle told the Star-Telegram that she heard two gunshots, went to a door and saw a man who was walking pull a gun from his pocket and reload it.

The witness said she locked the door of her business, but she saw the man go into a vape store, a hair salon, and Mellow Mushroom pizza restaurant. He was stumbling, she said.

When officers arrived, the man was inside Mellow Mushroom. He fired shots in the air before entering the business, police said.

Another witness who works at the House of Hair salon told the Star-Telegram she was doing a customer’s hair when a man with his hands in his pockets walked in behaving oddly. That witness did not see a gun but said that Reverie “was blankly staring” at customers and employees and was heard mumbling before he walked out.

About 3:30 p.m., a Star-Telegram reporter at the scene saw the suspect being taken into custody by police.

Video of the arrest provided to the Star-Telegram shows Reverie holding a cocktail in one hand and sipping from it while officers point guns at him and tell him to put his hands up. He then put his hands behind his head and surrendered to police, the video shows.

Officers arrested Reverie shortly after SWAT and negotiators arrived, according to police. Officers have not yet confirmed how many shots were fired, but said about three to four businesses in the area were evacuated as a result.

Officer Tracy Carter, a Fort Worth police spokesperson, said investigators were interviewing the suspect to find out more about what happened and his motives.

The report of shots fired prompted TCU, which is about one mile from Bluebonnet Circle, to send an emergency alert text to students and employees, warning them to stay away from the area or take shelter if they were already in the area.

Holly Ellman, a spokesperson for the university, told the Star-Telegram the alert was sent because of the proximity to the campus and that there was no indication the incident presented a direct danger to TCU.

TCU police responded to the scene to assist with traffic control.
