A 24-year-old North Texas man was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison for cruelty to an animal, the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

On July 10, 2022, in Keller, Arin Bright slammed a puppy named Mara on the ground and hung her by her neck with a leash, according to the district attorney’s office.

According to court records, he was accused of knowingly torturing the dog.

Bright was convicted at trial and sentenced to five years in prison by a jury.

The assistant district attorneys who worked on the case were Emily Kirby and Jennifer Therazin. The Keller Police Department and district attorney’s office Investigator Darran Gabbert investigated the case.
