A man who nine years ago killed a school employee in Carrollton and fled to Mexico has pleaded guilty to murder after being extradited back to Texas in 2021, according to a Thursday news release form Carrollton police.

His plea was part of a deal that includes a 30-year prison sentence.

Authorities said Gerardo Alvarez murdered his boss, Todd Fenton, in 2013, shooting him several times in the back at the Carrolton-Farmers Branch school district’s bus yard.

Fenton’s wife died in March and was not able to see her husband’s murderer sentenced to prison, police said in the news release.
