Two passengers in stranded car die in freeway crash caused by reckless driver, police say
A man driving recklessly at high speeds on Sunday caused the deaths of two people in a crash on a freeway shoulder in Grand Prairie, police said.
William Thompson, 22, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault in the deaths and injury of a third person, Grand Prairie police said.
Thompson was driving a Chrysler car east on Interstate 20 when about 5:15 p.m. he lost control in the 500 block and sideswiped a Mercedes car, police said.
The Mercedes was pushed toward the right shoulder and crashed into a stranded Chevrolet car in which three people sat. One died at the scene. The others were taken to a hospital, where one died and one is in critical condition.
Police attributed the description of Thompson’s driving before the crash to witnesses.
In a separate crash earlier Sunday, a Dodge pickup truck was eastbound on I-20 when its driver lost control at Carrier Parkway about noon and struck a concrete retaining wall, police said.
The driver died at a hospital. It was not known why the driver lost control, police said.
It was not clear whether the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office had identified the dead.
