Victims in Collin County murder-suicide identified, officials say
Police are investigating what they believe to be a double murder-suicide that occurred at a Murphy residence on Monday night, Collin County officials said.
Murphy police officers responded to the 400 block of Whisperfield Drive around 6:15 p.m. regarding a call about an unconscious person, according to Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV.
They found a 57-year-old woman in the driveway and a 63-year-old man inside the house. Both had multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene, Murphy officials said in a press release. The 35-year-old male suspect was taken to a local hospital with a self-inflicted injury and died later that night, officials said.
Authorities said the victims were the homeowners and identified the couple as Federico Cantu Jr. and Tracy Kay Cantu.
The suspect was identified as Vincent Cantu, Federico’s son and Tracy’s stepson. Vincent didn’t live at the Whisperfield Drive address, officials said.
Authorities believe Vincent arrived at the home around 6 p.m. with another person and attacked his father and stepmother with several weapons, according to the news release. The other person has been identified, officials said, and is cooperating with police.
Vincent shot himself in the head after attacking his father and stepmother, police said.
Collin County officials and the Parker Police Department assisted Murphy Police and Fire with the incident, officials said. Wylie forensics will process the evidence.
