Teen critically injured in shooting at Johnson Park in Everman, police say

Everman police are investigating a shooting that critically injured a teenager at Johnson Park on Monday evening.

The teen was shot at least once in the back and was taken to a hospital in critical condition by the Everman Fire Department, police said.

The shooting followed an argument that led to a fight, starting on the basketball court at the park, and migrating to the volleyball court where a gun was drawn and someone shot the teen as he had his back turned.

No suspects were in custody but police had identified another teenager they believed to be the shooter, according to a police spokesperson.

The park is in the 1900 block of Everman Parkway. Authorities said it was “a very active scene” with a heavy police presence and asked the public to avoid the area.

A police spokesman told the Star-Telegram the park was crowded at the time of the shooting and a baseball practice was ongoing nearby.
