A suspect in a killing at a Garland bike shop was found dead Thursday from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

Both the homicide victim and the suspect were employees of Don Johle’s Bike World.

Shortly after 9 a.m., officers were dispatched to the shop, at 5513 Broadway Blvd., after receiving an emergency call. The caller, an employee at the store, stated he arrived to open the business and discovered the doors were locked, but the metal gates were left open, which caused him concern, according to police.

There were no signs of forced entry, Garland police said.

Officers entered the business and found a man dead, who was identified as James Owen Kencheloe, 40, of Mesquite, according to police.

Garland homicide detectives arrived and started their investigation. On Thursday evening, they developed probable cause to believe Wesley Don Johle, 53, of Rowlett, was involved in the homicide, police said in a news release.

Members of the Garland SWAT unit served a felony warrant at Johle’s home and found him dead of an apparent suicide, according to the release.

Garland detectives are not searching for anyone else in connection to the homicide, but the investigation is ongoing.
