Fort Worth police expect to be close to full staffing for 911 call center by March
Fort Worth could have a near fully staffed 911 call center by this spring, according to a city report.
The city has 34 open 911 call taker positions, with 21 applicants ready to hire now and an additional 11 slated to start training in March, according to the report.
Fort Worth police have been trying to address a staffing shortage in the 911 call center since at least June 2021.
A December 2021 report linked the shortages to slow response times on high priority emergency calls.
The latest report showed an increased staffing on Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve 2022 greatly increased the percentage of calls answered by operators in 20 seconds or less.
