Suspect in West 7th area homicide arrested, Fort Worth police say
A suspect has been arrested after a Dec. 30 shooting that killed a man during a fight outside a bar in Fort Worth’s West Seventh Street district, according to police.
Fort Worth police arrested Brian Perez, 25, on Monday. He faces a murder charge in the shooting death of Aaron Nunez, 26, according to police.
Early on the Friday morning that the shooting occurred, officers responded to the intersection of Bledsoe Street and Currie Drive near El Chingon Bar at 1:11 a.m.
Police found Nunez with gunshot wounds to his lower back. Nunez could not give a statement to police and witnesses were initially uncooperative, police said.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained Tuesday by the Star-Telegram, there was a fight inside El Chingon between two groups. Security escorted those involved out of the bar.
One group consisted of nine to 10 individuals while the other group had about six, the affidavit said.
Video obtained by police shows the smaller group approach the larger group. Unprovoked, one member of the smaller group attacked a member of the larger group and began punching him several times, the affidavit states.
After security escorted both parties into the parking lot, the fight appeared to be over, the affidavit reads. However, video later shows one member from the smaller group approach a member from the larger group, attacking him and taking his gold chain off his neck, the affidavit said.
A large fight then began between both groups. During the fight, detectives saw a man on the video holding a handgun with a light on it and pointing it in the direction of Nunez. The shooter was later identified as Perez, according to the warrant.
Paramedics took Nunez to Texas Health Harris Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
