Fight among teenagers leads to shooting in central Arlington, police say

One person was shot Monday afternoon in central Arlington following a fight among teenagers that also resulted in several nearby schools being placed under shelter, police said.

A witness observed a group of teens fighting before one opened fire on another teenager at about 12:15 p.m. in the 1800 block of Cooper Street, police said.

The person who was shot was taken by private vehicle to a local hospital before he was care flighted to a trauma hospital, according to police. He is in stable condition.

Police arrested a teen in connection to the shooting. Investigators continue to interview witnesses, police said.

Lamar High School, Turning Point Secondary and Butler Elementary were placed under shelter protocol because of nearby police activity, authorities said.

Under shelter, school staff members bring all students indoors. No one is allowed to enter or exit the building, but teaching and learning continue inside the building.
