A Dallas teen who police believe is part of a burglary ring operation in North Texas faces a murder charge days after being caught when a police chase ended in a crash that killed a suspected juvenile accomplice, authorities said.

A 17-year-old Garland boy who was a passenger in the suspect vehicle also faces a charge in the case., and Garland police said more charges could be filed.

Garland police identified the driver as 18-year-old Joey William Jarvis. The 17-year-old is Bernabe Giles, who faces a charge of engaging in organized criminal activity.

One of Jarvis’ original charges of evading arrest and detention causing serious bodily injury has since been enhanced to murder, after the death of one of passengers, according to Garland police.

A 16-year-old in the vehicle died Saturday night, but Garland police said they would not release the name of the teen.

The occupants of the vehicle are suspects in a string of burglaries spanning across multiple cities including Mesquite, Arlington, Pantego, Grand Prairie, Hutchins, Dallas, Duncanville and Garland, police said.

Many of the crimes were caught on video, and the suspects were seen armed with rifles and other firearms, Garland police said in a news release. Agencies across the Metroplex were alerted to the vehicle, and the occupants were considered armed and dangerous because they fired a gun during one of the burglaries, police said.

The chase started in Garland on Saturday night and ended in Dallas after the vehicle with five suspects inside crashed.

After the crash, police searched the vehicle and found five firearms including three AR-15 pistols and two handguns. All the recovered weapons were loaded and believed to have been taken during various offenses and/or used during offenses.

Just after 10 p.m. Saturday, the chase began in Garland when officers tried to stop the white Chevrolet Tahoe which they believed belonged to the burglary suspects.

The driver refused to stop and fled into Dallas, police said.

A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter tracked the Tahoe to the Greenville Avenue area in Dallas.

Once in the area of the 12200 block of Greenville Avenue in Dallas, the driver failed to maintain control of the SUV, overcorrecting and causing the vehicle to overturn, Garland police said.

Two suspects who suffered minor injuries fled the scene, but they were arrested a short time later. Three others in the crashed SUV were taken to a local hospital. The 16-year-old died at the hospital.
