Two stabbed, one to death, in east Fort Worth child custody dispute, police say
One woman was killed and another person injured Tuesday in Fort Worth when a dispute over child custody escalated to a stabbing, according to police.
Police said they’ve arrested a man who faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection to the attack. Police records identify him as Gerald Walker, 30.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman who was killed as 29-year-old Jasmine Emil Simmons.
According to police, the stabbing happened when a woman tried to get a child back from the man. The women and the man became involved in a “minor physical altercation” before the man pulled out a knife and stabbed both victims, police said.
According to the police 911 log, a caller reported that a woman was reportedly stabbed by the man shortly after 1 p.m. near an apartment complex in the 7000 block of John T. White Road.
The suspect was seen running into the nearby Townsend Apartments with the knife, the caller said.
According to a spokesperson for MedStar, one person was pronounced dead at the scene and another person received a minor injury.
Another entry in the police incident log indicates someone called from a local hospital to report that a woman being treated there said she was stabbed close to Interstate 30 and John T. White Road.
