A 67-year-old Fort Worth man is accused of shooting to death his grandson during a family dispute at a White Settlement home, authorities said Wednesday.

A family dispute over how a 67-year-old man was allegedly treating a woman in a White Settlement home ended with his grandson shot to death, White Settlement police said Wednesday.

The dispute started in the home Monday night and continued outside when Daniel Gomez Hernandez chased and shot his 40-year-old grandson, who stumbled into a neighbor’s front yard, White Settlement Police Chief Christopher Cook said in a news release.

The grandson fell over onto a street, where Hernandez is accused of following him and shooting him again, killing him.

Hernandez was arrested at the scene. The name of his grandson had not been released by authorities as of Wednesday.

Cook said Wednesday that Hernandez’s grandson did not live at that White Settlement home. Jail records indicated that Hernandez lived in Fort Worth. A woman and two small kids were in the home during the family dispute.

“We believe this started over a dispute on how the suspect was allegedly treating the woman in the home,“ Cook said in a Wednesday email.

Police responded to the shooting call just after 7:30 p.m. Monday in the 8600 block of Ronnie Street in White Settlement.

Detectives determined that there was a disturbance between Hernandez and the victim inside of the home.. At some point during the disturbance, Hernandez chased the victim into the front yard, retrieved a firearm from a car in the driveway, and discharged the gun toward the victim.

The victim stumbled in a neighbor’s front yard and into the street. Detectives believe Hernandez followed the victim into the street and shot him again.

Police arrived and detained Hernandez. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:05 p.m. Tuesday.

Detectives recovered a handgun at the scene.

Cook said the gun was not stolen and Hernandez would not have been prohibited from owning one.

Hernandez was in the Tarrant County Jail on Wednesday with bond set at $25,000.

The Fort Worth man was charged on Wednesday with aggravated assault on a family member with a deadly weapon and assault on a family member, according to Tarrant County criminal court records.

White Settlement police said Hernandez now will face a charge of murder.
