A 31-year-old man was arrested Thursday in the Oct. 3 shooting death of a 21-year-old woman just minutes after she had beaten him in a basketball game.

Family members told local television stations that Asia Womack was killed over the basketball game at a Dallas park.

Dallas police announced on Thursday that Cameron Hogg was taken into custody and faces a murder charge in the Oct. 3 shooting death of Womack.

Around 7:40 p.m. on Oct. 3, police said, officers responded to the 4100 block of Hamilton Avenue. That’s in the South Dallas area near South Fitzhugh Avenue and the Dos Equis Pavilion.

Before Hogg’s arrest, Womack’s family members said that Womack, who was a graduate of James Madison High School, was walking home from the basketball game when he shot her, according to WFAA-TV

Dallas police had issued an arrest warrant for Hogg on Oct. 9, alleging he shot Womack several times and left her lying on a sidewalk to die.

Womack’s family also told KXAS-TV earlier this month that she was killed over the basketball game.

“We’re taking it kind of hard because it was senseless,” Womack’s aunt, Juanita Smith, told KXAS. “I just don’t understand why you kill somebody over a basketball game.”

The family’s pastor, John Delley of Faith Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, told the TV station that the shooter couldn’t accept defeat, left the park and came back with a gun.

“I believe in forgiveness, but justice needs to be served,” Smith told KXAS.
