A 61-year-old bicyclist was critically injured early Monday when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver on a Fort Worth street, authorities said.

The man was in critical condition at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

Police responded to a report of a major accident just before 12:30 a.m. Monday at East Lancaster Avenue and the entrance ramp to Interstate 35W.

Officers determined that the bicyclist had been riding eastbound on East Lancaster Avenue when he was hit by a vehicle whose driver failed to stop and render aid.

The hit-and-run driver fled the scene in the eastbound lanes of East Lancaster Avenue.

No one has been arrested in the case.

Traffic Investigation unit detectives are conducting the investigation.
