17-year-old arrested in connection with weekend Haltom City shooting that injured 3 people
A 17-year-old boy is a suspect in a weekend shooting in Haltom City that injured three people in a neighborhood, police said.
Haltom City police identified the suspect as Damian Israel Gamez.
Gamez, of Haltom City, was taken into custody on Tuesday by police and members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force.
The shooting was reported at about 11:15 p.m. Sunday in the 5000 block of Stephanie Drive.
Haltom City police responded to the shooting call and learned that three gunshot victims had been driven to a local hospital. Two of the victims were adults and one was a juvenile, police said. All three sustained injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, but one of the victims was injured more severely than the others.
Authorities did not provide any information on a motive for the shooting.
Detectives are trying to determine if the victims and the shooter knew each other and why they were in the area. Police said there was not a party at that location at the time of the shooting.
“Some of those involved are scheduled to come in for interviews, so we hope to piece all this together soon,” said Haltom City police Sgt. Richard Alexander in a Thursday email to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Alexander said the shooter and victims left in separate vehicles after the shooting occurred.
The investigation continued on Thursday and additional charges may be filed, police said.
