Medical examiner identifies 19-year-old fatally shot outside Arlington motel

A 19-year-old, who was fatally shot outside an Arlington extended-stay motel Tuesday night, was identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Mareon Robertson died at a local hospital in the operating room about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday. An autopsy is pending.

According to police, Robertson was shot outside the InTown Suites, located in the 6000 block of South Cooper Street, around 6 p.m.

Detectives later said that they believe before the shooting occurred, Robertson was in the back seat of a vehicle parked outside the motel. After he got out of the car, shots were fired and he was struck by gunfire.

“The suspected shooter then got into the car and drove away from the scene,” police said in a news release.

The 19-year-old was picked up by a couple who called 911 and told dispatchers that a man was shot at the motel and they were taking him to the hospital.

“EMS caught up with them a short time later and transported the victim the rest of the way by ambulance,” police said, adding that Robertson was still conscious by the time first responders reached him. “His injuries were critical and he was later pronounced deceased by medical staff.”

Detectives do not believe the attack was random but have not described a motive for the shooting.

The investigation remains ongoing. No arrests have been made.
