Fort Worth police arrest 17-year-old suspect in shooting outside Varsity Tavern
Fort Worth police have arrested a teenager who is accused of shooting into a crowd outside Varsity Tavern, sending two people to the hospital early Sunday.
Amari’yon Cravin, 17, was arrested on Thursday and faces nine counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of deadly conduct, police said in a tweet Friday.
Earlier, police sought the public’s help to identify the shooter by releasing video of the incident outside the bar in the West 7th district. The video was accompanied by photo stills of the suspect, with what appears to be a black firearm, and his arm extended forward with the weapon.
Shots rang out outside Varsity Tavern, at 1005 Norwood St., around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, when the gunman fired shots into the crowd then fled the scene on foot. Two victims were shot and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to a police report, a third person was also injured but was not taken to a hospital.
The victims were a man and two women, all in their 20s, according to the report.
A police department spokesman said Monday that investigators believed the shooting was the result of a verbal argument between two people on a sidewalk and the shot victims were bystanders.
Cravin was in the Tarrant County Jail on Friday with bond set at $25,000. An attorney for him was not yet listed in court records.
