Medical examiner identifies three victims of weekend shootings
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified three victims of separate shootings in North Texas last weekend, including two in Fort Worth.
The first fatal incident occurred Saturday morning around 4 a.m. when shots were fired in the 9100 block of Heron Drive.
The Hutchins Police Department was the first to report the shooting before it was handed off to Fort Worth police, according to a police report. Fort Worth police officers responded to the scene around 6:50 a.m. and found a deceased body near the shore of a lake.
Carlos Cardenas, 33, died from gunshot wounds to the head, the medical examiner reported. Cardenas was pronounced deceased upon police arrival to the scene. His death was ruled a homicide.
Later Saturday, around 8 p.m., more gunshots rang out at the Buttercup Place Apartments, located at 3828 Stallcup Road.
Dale Reed Jr., 28, died from gunshot wounds to the head and right lower extremity, the medical examiner said.
When officers arrived to the apartment complex, they found Reed was suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.
Reed’s murder is the second in nearly two weeks to occur at the apartment complex and follows the death of 17-year-old Roshonda Henderson, who died on April 12.
Another shooting occurred on Sunday morning, where a 19-year-old was identified as the victim.
Irving police responded to shots fired in the 10200 block of N. MacArthur Blvd around 5:30 a.m.
Devirea Smith died from a gunshot wound to the torso at a nearby Grapevine hospital. His death was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner.
There was a fourth fatal shooting this weekend, but the medical examiner has not yet identified the victim.
The shooting occurred in the 3800 block of Altamesa Boulevard shortly after midnight Sunday morning. Officers found a man who was dead at the scene and the victim had suffered at least one gunshot wound, police said.
