Police in Haltom City are asking for the public’s help in finding the woman they said (might have) stolen a whole skeleton from the public library.

The skeleton went missing on the evening of April 4.

No, no. Not real skeletal remains.

Someone stole Boney Stark, a fake, decorative “beloved library skeleton” that didn’t just get up and walk out on its own. Looking at a still image from a surveillance camera, it looks like it might have actually been dragged out.

Haltom City police said a woman walked into the library, wearing an orange shirt and blue overalls with the legs cut like short-shorts, and walked out carrying Boney, the typically-smiling skeleton dressed in a Tinker Bell costume complete with a sort of mint-seafoam top and fairy wings.

No ransom note has been delivered, so the library at first just took to social media and asked for the return of the skeleton.

But, police said in a Facebook post, “no one wanted to fess up so now we gotta do it like this.”

Police said they’d “love to chat” with the woman and “ask if she knows anything about a skeleton being removed from the library. Maybe more importantly we’d like to know ‘why’ someone might decide to take it?”

Police in Haltom City say this person MAY have abducted a “beloved library skeleton” from the Haltom City Library on April 4. They’d like the skeleton to be returned, no questions asked, but are asking people who recognize the person to contact the library just in case.

They also want to know what interior design style somebody has where a skeleton in a Tinker Bell getup “just completes the ambiance.”

Police don’t seem to want to make any arrests in this creepy kidnapping. They just want to help the librarians get their decorative bones back.

But if the skeleton doesn’t show up, they’re asking anybody who recognizes the person they found in a surveillance camera still, appearing to drag Boney away, to send an email to library@haltomcitytx.com.

“The librarians aren’t the type to get all ugly about something, as a matter of fact we had to whisper while we took the report,” police said in the Facebook post. “They’d be happy just getting it back. Please drop it off at the library... or better yet, the fire station (that would be hilarious) and let’s all turn the page on this weird caper.”
