11 people injured, at least one killed Saturday night in Dallas concert shooting
Eleven people were injured and at least one was killed Saturday night in a shooting at a southern Dallas concert, according to police.
At about midnight, Dallas police responded to a shooting call in the 5000 block of Cleveland Road, near Interstate 20 and Interstate 45.
Officers learned that multiple victims were shot while attending the Epic Easter Bike Out and Field Party trail ride and concert.
As of Sunday afternoon, 11 individuals — including three minors — were confirmed injured.
One is in critical condition, and the others are in stable condition, according to police. All were taken to local hospitals.
Near the stage, police found 26-year-old Kealon Dejuane Gilmore with a gunshot wound to the head. Gilmore died at the scene.
An initial investigation determined that one individual fired a gun into the air, and then another unknown individual fired a gun in the crowd’s direction, police said.
Witnesses said as many as 2,000 people were at the open-air event and that police and emergency vehicles were unable to quickly enter the scene with people running from gunshots, according to WFAA.
The trail ride event included attendants driving ATVs through the property and was headlined by Memphis rapper Big Boogie. The shooting occurred before he performed.
Witnesses said the incident escalated from a fight that broke out on the scene, according to WFAA.
The motive and circumstances are still under police investigation.
Police are asking residents with information to contact homicide detective Christopher Anderson at 214-671-3616 or c.anderson@dallascityhall.com.
