16-year-old girl shot, wounded at gas station in southwest Fort Worth, authorities say

A 16-year-old girl was shot in the leg Friday afternoon at or near a gas station in south Fort Worth, according to Fort Worth police.

The girl was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

Police did not announce an arrest.

The girl was shot about 12:15 p.m. at or near a Chevron station at Altamesa Boulevard and Woodway Drive, police said.

A police call log indicated that a person was shot near a Chicken Express restaurant.

Fort Worth Southwest High School Principal John Engel notified parents Friday afternoon that the school was placed on a secure status as police investigated the shooting.

Students remained in classes, which continued, but all outside doors were locked and extra security was provided for the campus.

No visitors were allowed to enter the building, the principal said.

Officials have not said whether the injured girl was a student at the school.

Authorities did not have a description of the assailant. The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
