4 Little Elm High School students arrested; officers use taser, pepper spray at protest

Four Little Elm High School students were arrested Friday morning after they were accused of assaulting Little Elm police officers during a student-led protest.

According to Little Elm ISD officials, students at the high school had planned a demonstration inside the campus that caused a “major disruption.” Police said they used a taser and pepper spray on students.

“The demonstration was a result of a social media post the day before that contained inaccurate information regarding an incident that happened a month ago,” according to the school district’s statement.

Details of what the incident was have not been released by the school district as of Friday afternoon. Students said on social media that they were protesting how the school has handled reports of sexual assault.

One student was tased by police and several were pepper-sprayed. A spokesperson with the Little Elm Police Department said police used the taser and spray on a few students who moved aggressively toward other students, teachers and police officers.

A Little Elm police spokesperson told Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV that they were unaware of any injuries. Helicopter video showed police and emergency medical personnel at the scene, according to WFAA.

The school district and Little Elm Police Department worked together to secure the scene and ensure the safety of everyone at the campus, according to the district statement.
