4-year-old critically hurt in North Richland Hills crash; driver may have been intoxicated

A 4-year-old child was in critical, but stable, condition after a car accident Thursday night.

North Richland Hills police say charges are pending for a 23-year-old Fort Worth man who may have been intoxicated when he crashed on Loop 820 westbound near the Boulevard 26 exit around 11:45 p.m.

“The 23-year-old driver of the vehicle had to be extricated by North Richland Hills Fire Department and was transported to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” police said in a news release Friday. “In addition, there was a 4-year-old passenger in the vehicle who was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The child was last listed as stable.”

Police have not said if the man and the child are related.

Police said the exit was closed for several hours as they investigated the scene. It opened around 3 a.m.

The investigation remains ongoing.
