Officials identify 12-year-old girl as second victim in fatal Fort Worth hit-and-run
A 12-year-old Fort Worth girl has been identified as the second victim in a fatal hit-and-run crash early Sunday on Interstate 20 in Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office website.
On Monday, Fort Worth police reported two women were killed and a male was injured when the three were walking on the shoulder of the highway after their car became disabled, and they were hit by an unknown vehicle which did not stop.
Bella Vasquez, 20, of Fort Worth, died at the scene early Sunday, authorities said.
Medical examiner’s office records show the other victim was a 12-year-old girl who died at 5:43 p.m. Sunday at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.
She was identified as Allison Zarate of Fort Worth, according to the medical examiner’s office. A ruling on her death is pending an autopsy.
Allison’s family members could not be reached Tuesday for comment.
A GoFundMe account has been established for the family to help with the cost of the funeral.
Information on the male who was injured was not available on Tuesday.
Fort Worth police said the three friends were involved in a single-car accident shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of Interstate 20 westbound between McCart Avenue and James Avenue/Crowley Road.
After the accident, the three started walking on the right shoulder of the freeway to get help when they were struck by a hit-and-run driver, leaving the 20-year-old Vasquez dead at the scene. The other two victims were taken to the hospital, police said.
Fort Worth police continued to ask for help Tuesday to find the driver who failed to stop and help any of the victims early Sunday.
The unknown vehicle hit Vasquez and her two friends, then immediately left the scene without stopping, police said.
