Medical Examiner identifies 40-year-old man as victim of fatal Fort Worth shooting
A 40-year-old Fort Worth man has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred Monday.
Ricardo Contreras Lobatos was killed by multiple gunshot wounds while he was inside of his vehicle, according to records from the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
It is unclear when the shooting occurred, but police received two phone calls Monday afternoon reporting a red SUV had been running since the early morning near the 4000 block of Fairfax Avenue.
The first caller, around 2:20 p.m., told first responders they did not know if someone was inside the vehicle, police said. The second caller, around 3:40 p.m., said that a Hispanic male driver was slumped over inside the vehicle with an “apparent bullet hole in the driver’s door.”
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a man, who was later identified as Contreras Lobatos, in the driver’s seat with the vehicle still running and in gear, “but had come to rest against a large landscaping rock near the roadway and was unable to move forward,” police said.
Contreras Lobatos, who had apparent gunshot wounds, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police initially believed the victim was 21-years-old.
The investigation remains ongoing.
