Lockdown at Arlington High School lifted after airsoft gun found on campus Friday

Arlington High School went on lockdown Friday afternoon to investigate a possible threat on campus, police and school officials said.

A staff member at the high school reported seeing someone carrying a weapon on campus, Arlington police said in a Twitter post. After placing the school on immediate lockdown, police identified and detained an 18-year-old Arlington High student who had an airsoft gun.

The student was taken into custody on several outstanding misdemeanor warrants unrelated to the airsoft gun, Arlington police spokesman Tim Ciesco said in an email. The student has not been charged in connection to the lockdown incident as of Friday evening.

Ciesco said Arlington police do not believe the student pointed the airsoft gun or threatened anyone with it; based on preliminary investigation, someone saw him handling the gun in the parking lot, which prompted the report.

Both Arlington Police Department and Arlington ISD Security were on site, school district spokeswoman Anita Foster said in an email.

Police determined there was no ongoing threat to the campus and lifted the lockdown around 2:30 p.m.
