Burleson High student shot to death at basketball court in Fort Worth suburb, police say

A Burleson teen died early Tuesday after he was found with a gunshot wound near a basketball court on Northeast Alsbury Boulevard in Burleson, police said.

Burleson detectives believe the shooting was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the public.

No one had been arrested as of Tuesday morning.

The teen has been identified as Shaunathan Elijah Hunter McMahon, 17, of Burleson, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office website on Tuesday.

The 17-year-old died from a gunshot wound to his back and his death has been ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s website.

Burleson police said they found the teen late Monday with a gunshot wound and he died early Tuesday in a Fort Worth hospital.

The teen was a student at Burleson High School, a school official said.

“It is always heartbreaking to lose a student, and our thoughts are with his friends and family,” said Burleson school spokeswoman Mikala Hill in an email to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Tuesday.

Burleson police responded to a shooting call at about 11:20 p.m. Monday at the Alsbury Villas apartments in the 700 block of Northeast Alsbury Boulevard.

That’s the area where the teen was found. McMahon is from Burleson, but he did not live in the Alsbury Villas, Burleson police said.

Burleson police did not release any other information on the shooting.
