Distracted woman steps into traffic, dies after she is struck, Fort Worth police say

A 39-year-old woman was distracted and stepped into traffic, then was struck by a vehicle and later died, authorities said.

The woman was hit about 4 p.m. Sunday on East Lancaster Avenue near Grandview Drive in Fort Worth, police said.

Elizabeth Newberry was pronounced dead at John Peter Smith Hospital about 45 minutes after she was struck, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office said. She lived in Fort Worth.

The vehicle’s driver stayed at the scene, police said.

The police investigation was incomplete Tuesday.
