Off-duty Dallas officer shot during robbery in Fort Worth, police say

An off-duty police officer was shot while trying to fend off attackers who were trying to steal his wife’s purse in north Fort Worth, according to Fort Worth police.

At about 4:45 p.m., Fort Worth police received a shooting call near Northeast 21st Street and North Main Street, about two blocks from Joe T. Garcia’s and near the Fort Worth Stockyards.

Two people tried to grab a woman’s purse, and her husband tried to fend them off, Fort Worth police said. The husband was shot in the side of the chest and the two people ran away. The man is an off-duty Dallas police officer, Fort Worth police officer Tracy Carter confirmed Sunday evening.

The man was taken to a hospital, and police said he was stable as of Sunday.

One person was arrested and the other had not been located Sunday evening, police said.
