Fort Worth teen accused of involvement in 2 gang shootings will remain in detention

A Fort Worth teenager accused of being involved in two gang shootings in May will remain in juvenile detention, a judge ruled Monday after a three-minute virtual hearing.

The teen is one of two juveniles known to be accused of involvement in a shooting on Mother’s Day, which left five people wounded at Village Creek Park. The shooting was part of a gang war over the fatal shooting of an up-and-coming Fort Worth rapper, who is also the teen’s brother, according to police.

He is also accused of being involved in a shooting at an apartment complex in May in which bullets went through a UPS truck. Investigators later found that the boy had posted photos of himself with a gun on Instagram.

Judge Alex Kim did not clarify during the hearing what the boy’s role was in the shooting, but said: “Kids with guns are where I draw the line.”

“I cannot handle that,” the judge continued. “Especially when the guns are actually used ... I’m deeply concerned if I release you, you will end up killing someone or someone will kill you.”

He is being held at the Juvenile Justice Center in Fort Worth.

The court released a second juvenile suspect who had been detained in connection with the Village Creek Park shooting with the condition that he must wear an electronic monitor for at least 30 days. The teen had been detained in the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center for more than two weeks before he was released Wednesday, according to his family.
