As policing demonstrations continue, Dallas city manager rescinds nighttime curfew
As policing protests continued, Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax on Saturday signed an order immediately lifting a curfew in central sections of the city.
Broadnax consulted with the Dallas police chief and City Council before making the decision, according a city statement.
Orders to implement a curfew followed Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s and Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson’s state of disaster declarations on May 31.
The curfew began May 31 after a weekend of mostly peaceful demonstrations punctuated by instances of violence and looting. People were largely prohibited from being outdoors in downtown, Deep Ellum, the Cedars, West End, Victory Park and Uptown. On Tuesday, the sections of the city covered by the curfew expanded to West Village and Trinity Groves.
Fort Worth’s curfew began Monday and ended Thursday.
