Man accused of murdering his uncle during domestic dispute in Fort Worth home
A Fort Worth man is accused of killing his uncle earlier this month during a domestic dispute at a residence, according to Fort Worth police and a relative.
A murder charge was added on Thursday to Tyler Bennett Walker, who was already in custody and accused of assaulting his uncle on May 2 at a home in southeast Fort Worth.
Bennett (Paul) Gordon Jr., 62, died on May 6 from injuries he suffered in the assault, according to Fort Worth police and officials with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. Gordon died at a local hospital. Autopsy results were still pending.
“I was asleep when I heard voices,” said John Gordon of Fort Worth in a telephone interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. His children and his brother, Paul Gordon, had been living with him. Walker, his nephew, had just been staying there three weeks. “His (Walker’s) girlfriend was there, too. I found Tyler giving CPR to Paul.”
John Gordon told someone to call 911, and Fort Worth police arrived.
The Fort Worth man said he didn’t see what had happened.
Fort Worth patrol officers responded to the domestic call shortly before 2 a.m. on May 2.
Fort Worth police did not provide any other details on the call.
Jail records indicated that Walker, 25, was arrested on May 2 and faced an aggravated assault charge related to the injuries that Paul Gordon suffered.
Walker also was booked into jail that day on a charge of assault on a public servant.
At the time of his arrest on May 2, Walker was on probation for drug possession, according to Tarrant County criminal court records. He was sentenced to 72 months of probation in July 2018 on the drug charge, which occurred in Fort Worth.
Walker was in the Tarrant County Jail in lieu of $5 million bond on the murder charge. He’s also being held on a $2,500 bond on the assault on a public servant charge.
