Cyclist dies after hit-and-run by SUV near Fort Worth, authorities say

A man riding a bicycle in Hurst died Tuesday after he was struck by an SUV whose driver left the scene, police said.

The victim was hit about 9 p.m. in the 2100 block of East Hurst Boulevard, Hurst police said.

The cyclist was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he died.

He was identified as Quintil Felipe Reyes, 58, of Grapevine, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website on Thursday. A ruling on his death is pending an autopsy.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a black or dark-colored older model SUV.

Hurst detectives found video recorded at businesses that shows the vehicle as it drove from the scene. The vehicle is possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon, police said.

The vehicle would have been damaged in the front right fender, right front bumper and in its hood, police said.

Police on Wednesday released a photograph of the SUV and asked for help from the public in identifying the driver or owner.

Someone with information should call Hurst Det. Kyle Truly at 817-788-7179, police said.
