Two Fort Worth barbecue restaurants burglarized as suspect seeks registers, police say
Two Fort Worth barbecue restaurants were burglarized late Wednesday or early Thursday by a suspect seeking cash registers, police said.
The front door at Heim Barbecue in the 1100 block of West Magnolia Avenue was smashed and its glass broken.
A manager told police that she arrived to begin work and discovered the broken glass and a missing cash register. The manager called for police about 6:30 a.m.
Security camera video showed a man breaking glass on the door about 1:45 a.m. Thursday.
The cash register drawers were empty, according to a police report. A register was found on the sidewalk in front of Shaw’s Patio Bar and Grill in the next block.
Police processed the scene and found fingerprint smudges on cash register monitors.
A person who matched the suspect’s description was located and interviewed by a detective, a police spokesman said.
The man was arrested on warrants that had been issued for misdemeanor tickets. He had not been booked on suspicion of a crime connected to the burglary as of Thursday afternoon, the spokesman said.
Also burglarized was Panther City BBQ in the 200 block of East Pennsylvania Avenue, about a mile away from the other restaurant, police said. The crime occurred between 7 p.m. Wednesday and about 3:30 a.m. Thursday.
A cash register, $100 in cash and a register system were stolen.
