Detonated explosive device found near ATM at Fort Worth bank

Local and federal authorities on Thursday were investigating an explosive device found near an ATM in south Fort Worth that had been detonated.

It was the second such device discovered near an ATM at a Fort Worth bank.

“A similar one was found recently at another location in Fort Worth,” said fire department spokesman Mike Drivdahl in a telephone interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “We are tying to determine if they are connected.”

On Thursday morning, police responded to a call about 5 a.m. to the Chase Bank at Interstate 35W and Seminary Drive.

The call led police to alert firefighters about a device near the ATM.

Fire officials called the device “crude,” but they did not provide any other details.

KTVT-TV reported that officials said someone had used large fireworks to create the device.

Fire officials did not provide any information on the previous call involving a similar explosive device.

The cases are being investigated by the department’s bomb squad, police and ATF agents.
