Garland woman reported missing turns up dead inside a dumpster enclosure in Irving

A woman who was found dead inside a garbage dumpster enclosure on Sunday has been identified as a 22-year-old who was reported missing out of Garland.

Jessica Hernandez’s mother called the Garland Police Department on Jan. 28 and told an officer that she last saw her daughter climb into what looked like a cab about 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 26 and she had not been seen since, said Lt. Pedro Barineau, Garland police spokesman.

There was nothing that her mother said that led officers to believe Hernandez was in any danger, Barineau said.

Hernandez was found Sunday inside a garbage dumpster enclosure behind the Aldi’s Grocery Store in the 2900 of Belt Line Road in Irving by a store employee who was taking out the trash, said Robert Reeves, Irving police spokesman.

Hernandez was injured with wounds that suggest that she was murdered, but officers are not releasing any details about the exact nature of those wounds. There are no signs that the wounds were self-inflicted or caused accidentally, according to Reeves.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Irving Police Department at 972-273-1010. The number is answered 24 hours a day. Those with information about this case should reference case number 20-2621.

Anyone with any surveillance footage of the area or with video that might suggest a suspect is also asked to call police. Tips may also be submitted to ipdcrimetips@cityofirving.org.
