Thief took more than $50,000 worth of jewelry from Fort Worth woman at Texas motel

A thief snatched more than $50,000 worth of jewelry from a Fort Worth woman who had been staying at a Texas motel, she told police.

The suspect took a fanny pack filled with jewelry out of a drawer earlier this week from Mickey Brittain, who had been staying at a La Quinta Inn in Colorado City. The town is about 220 miles west of Fort Worth.

Brittain, who is an administrator at a Snyder nursing home, stays at the motel during the week and goes home to Fort Worth on the weekend, according to KTXS-TV.

“I have been here over a year and nothing has ever been taken,” Brittain told KTXS-TV.

The fanny pack contained necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings, most of them family heirlooms made by her family when they owned a jewelry store, according to KTXS.

Brittain said she has been searching pawn shops.

Colorado City Police Chief Charles Rice told KTXS that detectives are viewing hours of hallway surveillance video footage and questioning possible suspects.

Management at the hotel didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
