Teenager airlifted to Cook Children’s after hit-and-run in DFW; police arrest suspect
A 13-year-old girl was flown Wednesday to Cook Children’s Hospital after she was critically injured in a hit-and-run in Denton County, police said.
The child, who has a disability, was reported missing by her parents in Krum on Wednesday at 7:19 p.m., Krum Police Chief Terry Hargis said. Officers went to the family’s home, and the parents said their children had left the house and were running through the neighborhood.
While they were talking with the parents, officers received a report of a car crash involving a pedestrian about a block away.
Officers went to the reported address and found the child had been hit by a car and the driver had fled. Police on Thursday night said they had arrested the driver.
The accident happened in front of Miguelito’s Mexican Restaurant at 1521 E. McCart Street / FM 1173, according to a Facebook post by Denton County Crime Stoppers.
The girl was taken to Cook Children’s in a helicopter.
Officers went Thursday to local businesses trying to find video of the suspect’s vehicle, which was described by witnesses as a dark red truck or SUV, Hargis said.
“We’re very driven for this little girl and for the family and for this community,” Hargis said. “We definitely want to get some sort of positive resolution out of this.”
