Man was driving with nearly 600 pounds of liquid meth in containers, Denton police say

A man was driving Thursday in Denton with 596.3 pounds of liquid methamphetamine inside an SUV, police alleged.

Twelve plastic containers were inside the SUV, and each held methamphetamine that was starting to crystallize, police said. The weight of the containers varied between 41.3 pounds and 53.9 pounds.

Adan Murga-Alvarez, 29, was booked at the Denton City Jail on suspicion of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance. He was being held Friday in lieu of $500,000 bail, police said.

Special Investigative Unit detectives saw a GMC Envoy driving with a broken passenger brake light at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday and stopped it on Interstate 35, just north of North Texas Boulevard, police said.
