A suspected drunken driver was arrested during an altercation with police during a Toys for Tots drive in Southlake on Monday, officers said.

Southlake police said on their Facebook page that officers had to use a Taser on Patrick George Yadauga as they arrested him on suspicion of DWI. He was also charged with resisting arrest and assault on a public servant.

Southlake officers were assisting the Toys for Tots drive at Town Hall near 1400 Main Street on Monday just after 5:30 p.m., police said. Yadauga approached officers, who detected an overwhelming scent of alcohol on him.

Yadauga refused to follow the officers’ directions and instead drove into the one-way drop-off zone where pedestrians were gathered while collecting toys.

As officers caught up with Yadauga, police said, he refused to comply with their orders and started fighting the officers as they tried to remove him from his car.

Ultimately, police said they had to use both a TASER and pepper spray to take Yadauga into custody.

Fox 4 News, which was helping collect donations at the toy drive, captured the arrest on video.

After being checked out by Southlake medics, Yadauga was taken to the Keller Jail.
