Woman known as ‘Shorty’ threw 1,000 grams of meth out window during chase, police say
A woman was charged Thursday with selling methamphetamine after police say she threw drugs out her car window while fleeing from police.
On Wednesday, Melissa Viola Garza, aka “Shorty,” was contacted by someone secretly working with Dallas police. The cooperating defendant asked to buy meth from Garza, according to charging documents.
Officers located Garza’s car and followed her to Flora Motel on Fort Worth Avenue in Dallas. She texted the cooperating defendant and said she “had two whole ones” and wanted to do the transaction at her apartment.
When Garza left the motel, a Texas Highway Patrol trooper turned on their lights and tried to pull her over.
Garza tried to flee from the trooper and, while driving away, threw multiple bags out her window. After Garza was eventually stopped and arrested, officers discovered the bags were filled with 1,180 grams of meth.
Police also said they found 6.1 grams of crack cocaine, $3,263 and a glass pipe inside Garza’s car.
When officers searched Garza’s motel room, they said found four guns, drug packaging material, meth and prescription pills, charging documents state.
