A Lubbock high school teacher was arrested Wednesday a week after being charged with having sex with his 16-year-old student, who police say he had been involved with since August.
Scott Riley Hall has been an art teacher at Coronado High School since August 2017, according to charging documents. On Oct. 3, he was charged at the federal and state level with enticement and attempted enticement of his 16-year-old female student.
According to charging documents, Hall was the girl’s art teacher and became a mentor to her during her sophomore year.
On Sept. 11, Hall drove the girl, referred to as Jane Doe, to a job training after school. After the training, they had a text conversation that seemed sexual in nature, according to an FBI investigation.
“I love touching you” Hall wrote in a text, according to court documents. “You’re so amazing, my dear. One of these days, we are going to spend hours watching movies and rolling around in bed. I love you!”
On Sept. 12, Hall emailed Doe, documents state.
“I just have to focus on the things that can keep me and our dreams alive. Seeing you (even briefly), dreaming of next time, and reminiscing about the last time,” he wrote.
According to charging documents, Doe’s mother discovered the emails and spoke to Doe. After first denying the relationship, Doe told her mother she had sex with Hall.
Doe’s mother confronted Hall. In text messages on Sept. 12, Hall asked Doe’s mother to “keep this from being a legal or professional situation.”
“I absolutely promise never to attempt to contact her per your wishes. I truly wanted to be that Art Dad, but I let my care for her cross a line,” the text stated. “It was misguided affection ... I am not a predator, and this has never happened nor will it happen again. I promise with everything I am.”
On Sept. 30, Doe reported the alleged relationship to the Lubbock police department.
When police interviewed Hall, he admitted to having a relationship with Doe and said they started having sex in the summer of 2018, according to documents.
Hall was arrested Monday morning and placed on administrative leave from the high school, according to EverythingLubbock.
On Wednesday morning, Hall was released on bond in federal court.
