Suspect in homicide pulled up to vehicle ‘and began shooting,’ police say

The Irving Police Department is investigating the killing of a 34-year-old man that happened just after 2 a.m. on Sunday.

Police say that Jose Casas-Cruz was a passenger in a vehicle that was heading southbound on Loop 12 near Texas 183. A small pickup truck pulled up next to the vehicle and began shooting, police said.

Casas-Cruz was shot once. He was taken to Parkland Hospital, where he died of his injuries, authorities said.

“The motive for the shooting is unknown,” police said.

The truck is described as a 1995 to 2000 model dark green Toyota Tacoma extra cab with dark tinted windows.
