‘Thank you and sorry’: Apologetic Fort Worth bank robber charged in federal court
A man accused of robbing a Fort Worth bank on Sept. 17 apologized to the teller during the robbery, according to a federal criminal complaint.
Michael Anthony Grimes is accused of walking into the BBVA Compass Bank, 4401 Basswood Blvd., at around 11:30 a.m. and handing the teller a note that demanded money.
At the end of the note, Grimes wrote “thank you and sorry,” according to the court document. During the robbery, he grabbed a plastic cup full of candy that was later tested for finger prints.
Then, on Sept. 25, police received information allegedly connecting Grimes to the robbery when they contacted him for a reported domestic disturbance in the 8600 block of Scenic Green Circle, the document says. A photo of Grimes in the police database matched the photo taken from inside the bank, the document says.
Prints taken from the cup were then compared to Grimes’ prints and they matched, the document says. Grimes was arrested on Sept 28 and was appointed a federal public defender.
He is charged with bank robbery.
