Johnson County man fatally shot in the street during domestic fight

Investigators are trying to figure out why an altercation involving three people in their 20s left a Johnson County man dead in the road Tuesday night.

Casey James Potts, 21, was shot at the intersection of Texas and Colorado streets, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office. He was pronounced dead at 11 p.m.

Earlier, a woman who had been dating Potts called 911 to report a domestic disturbance between the two but hung up before finishing the call, Johnson County Sheriff Bob Alford said Wednesday.

Investigators later learned that the woman ran down a road as Potts followed her in his vehicle, Alford said. As she ran, a 26-year-old acquaintance drove up and the woman got in his vehicle, Alford said.

Potts followed the vehicle to the intersection, where he and the other man got into a fight before Potts was shot multiple times, Alford said.

“We are trying to figure out if there was justification or not,” Alford said. “We are basing a whole lot on the female’s statement, but her back was turned when the shooting occurred.”

Alford said the woman called 911 again to report the shooting.

Investigators have interviewed the man, but no one has been arrested. The case will take a few days to sort out, he said.

“We just have to make sure justice is done,” he said.
